The following hearing of the International Court of Appeal took place in Paris on Friday 4 May 2018:
Appeal brought by M-Sport Ford World Rally Team against the Stewards’ Decision No. 7 dated 11 March 2018, taken within the framework of the Rally of Mexico counting towards the 2018 FIA World Rally Championship
On 11 March 2018, on the basis of a report from the Clerk of the Course which stated that car No. 1 (Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia) did not go around the chicane elements as shown in the Road Book at box 18 on SS 22 (Power Stage), the Stewards, after having heard the competitor’s representatives and the crew, decided to impose a 10-second time penalty (Decision No. 7).
In application of Article 13.3.4 of the Championship Sporting Regulations (Attribution of “Power Stage” points), this time penalty was added to the time of SS 22 (Power Stage).
On 15 March 2018, M-Sport Ford World Rally Team lodged an appeal against Decision No. 7.
Decision of the International Court of Appeal
The Court, after having heard the parties and examined their submissions:
– decided to uphold Decision No. 7 of the Stewards of the Rally of Mexico, counting towards the 2018 FIA World Rally Championship;
– rejected the appeal.
The International Court of Appeal was presided over by Mr Jan STOVICEK (Czech Republic), and included Mr Xavier BONE MATHEU (Spain), Mr Jean GAY (Switzerland) and Mrs Tiffany HEMMER (United States).
