The ISSF mourns the loss of ISSF Honorary Member Björn Schullström, a former Vice President, esteemed colleague and dear friend of many members of the ISSF family, who passed away in his homeland of Sweden on 5 June 2018 at the age of 87.

Mr. Schullström served the ISSF as an active leader for 20 years, from 1974 until 1994.  The 1974 General Assembly elected him to be Chairman of the Running Target Section Committee and he served in that capacity as well as on the Technical Committee until 1980.  In 1980 he was elected as an ISSF Vice President.  He served as a Vice President until 1994 when health issues forced him to step down from active ISSF service.  During these years, Schullström served on many Championship Juries and played a decisive role in developing several important innovations like finals for Olympic Shooting events.

Björn Schullström received many honors for his distinguished service to the Shooting Sport.  In addition to decorations awarded by his home country, the ISSF awarded him its Gold Medal in 1980, the Blue Cross in 1982 and the President’s Button, also in 1982.  In 1994 the General Assembly elected him as an ISSF Honorary Member, the “Federation’s highest honor.”

Björn Schullström was an exceptional Shooting Sport leader who served with dedication and effectiveness as long as his health permitted.  Every ISSF official who served with Björn remembers him with respect and genuine love.   The ISSF extends its sincere condolences to Björn’s family and to his many shooting friends in Sweden and around the world.
