Peter O’Mahony captains Ireland and new Munster signing Joey Carbery starts at 10 for Joe Schmidt’s team against Australia in the first of their three Test series at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday.
The British & Irish Lions’ back row steps up in the absence of the injured Rory Best and is joined in the backrow by Ulster’s Jordi Murphy and CJ Stander.
James Ryan, who has still yet to lose a professional match, and Iain Henderson fill the lock positions with Jack McGrath, Rob Herring and John Ryan starting in the front row.
The biggest call however is the decision to start Carbery. His previous two starts for Ireland acme against USA and Fiji and he has yet to become a consistent kicker, in kicking territory or kicking at goal.
In the backline Rob Kearney is named at fullback, with Jacob Stockdale and Keith Earls on the wings and Bundee Aki maintaining his place at centre alongside Robbie Henshaw with Garry Ringrose among those rested.
